Recently, I was able to fund 15 free spay/neuter surgeries at the local low cost clinic. The surgeries were specifically for cattle dogs because they hold a special place in my heart. As I grew up in the country, we always had at least one heeler and whatever other dog wandered up to the house!
As a volunteer at the shelter, I see a huge number of working dogs brought in. Puppies and adults are frequent kennel occupants. It’s heartbreaking to see these dogs that thrive on working and doing a job become distressed locked in a cage.
So why all this rambling? Well, I want to keep a cattle dog spay/neuter fund available at the Animal Birth Control Clinic for those who need some help covering the cost of the surgery. If we can keep unwanted births from happening, then we will directly impact the number of unwanted pets coming in to our shelter. No doubt in my mind!
How will I come up with the money to keep my fund going? I am planning the Cattle Dogs of Central Texas 2013 Calendar! All proceeds from the sales will go directly to the fund at the clinic. But I need your help!! Models are needed for the calendar. I guess I should specify what a cattle dog is in my mind. Let me see… heelers, border collies, corgis, australian shepherds, catahoulas, you get the point! Do you own a cattle dog? Know someone else that owns one? Would you allow me to come out and take his/her picture? Only one other requirement, the dog must be spayed or neutered!
I am also looking for sponsors to help pay for the calendar’s printing cost. My hopes are to get local agriculture related businesses to help out. But I’m not going to turn anyone down! All sponsors will be given credit on the calendar. And if they have cattle dogs, we can use them as models too!
I know it’s early in 2012 to be thinking of next year but I want to get the ball rolling. This fund is very important to me and I want it to be successful. I hope to decrease images like this…
